Published entry prices for SEO in Australia sit around $800 to $1,100 a month. That is the lowest price on offer, not the cost of a full program, and both studies behind it are small and not Melbourne-only. Ask what each price includes before you compare them.
What the published prices show
Two 2026 studies looked at the prices Australian SEO providers publish. Neither is a Melbourne survey, and both were carried out by businesses that sell SEO.
| Study | Sample | Median entry price | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consultants vs agencies (Uprise) | 89 Australian providers; 30 published a monthly price (8 consultants, 22 agencies) | About $1,085 for consultants; about $1,100 for agencies | 24 Sep 2026 |
| Entry offers (Digital Nomads HQ) | 110 websites reviewed; 50 published monthly entry offers | $790 a month | Updated 17 Sep 2026 |
What that means in practice
For most Australian businesses, the lowest published SEO retainer sits at roughly $800 to $1,100 a month. Agency prices were spread much wider, from $150 to $3,000, but the $150 figure appears to be an hourly rate, so the medians are the more useful guide.
Treat the lowest price with care. The Digital Nomads HQ median reflects selected starter packages, and the lowest published price is rarely the price of a full program.
Why the lowest price is not the whole answer
A published price tells you where a provider starts. It does not tell you the hours, the tasks or who does the work. Two offers at the same price can be very different.
- Check GST. Several published prices did not say whether GST was included, so confirm before you compare.
- Check the scope. Ask which tasks are included: technical audit, content, mentions and links, and reporting.
- Check who does the work. Ask whether the person you meet is the person who does the work.
- Check the term. Ask how long the agreement runs and how either side can end it.
How I price SEO work
I do not publish a fixed price list on this site. After a free audit, I send a written, fixed-price quote, so you know the total before you agree to anything. The audit shows what your site needs, and the quote matches the scope to that.
What these numbers cannot tell you
These studies are small, they come from businesses that sell SEO, and they do not separate Melbourne from the rest of Australia. Prices change, so check the sources and their dates before you rely on any figure.
The short version
Published Australian SEO prices start around $800 to $1,100 a month. Treat that as a floor, ask what is included, and get a fixed quote before you commit.
